The Purpose
Sobremesa exists to celebrate the power and beauty of language as a tool for transformation. Personal, cultural, and social. And to reclaim language as a political and world-building tool.
Language is never neutral. Every word we use reflects its own power: the possibility to build bridges, question norms, tell our own stories, and imagine new ways of being in the world. It shapes how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, and how we imagine the world we want to live in.
At its core, Sobremesa is here to inspire a more meaningful way of learning, one where language becomes an act of care, resistance and belonging. To create a more conscious, connected and compassionate world. One conversation at a time, because language holds the blueprint for the world we’re building.
The Mission
We design creative and cultural language learning that goes beyond “curated experiences” towards co-authored, transformational encounters between people.
This is an invitation to inspire reflection, spark dialogue, and empower people to use language with intention, care, and curiosity. Because to speak is to act, and in a world shaped by language, your words can change everything.
Language learning, for us, is a path to deeper awareness and meaningful connection. Through Spanish, we explore how words shape our world, how they exclude and include, how they limit or liberate.
Our work is about reclaiming voice, building empathy, and understanding the political nature of everyday conversation.
The Values
Beauty
Beauty is our leitmotif. We deeply believe that beauty, in all its forms, is a vital part of our existence, and we passionately weave it into every aspect of our life. It is part of the language we speak: the sound of the words, the silence between them, and the underlying system of thought where aesthetics are structural.
Our language learning encounters are designed to surround us with aesthetically pleasing environments that feel harmonious and inspiring. We care, and we give attention to detail, so that every ordinary moment becomes something special. Turning the ordinary into something sacred is how we reclaim our humanity.
Beauty opens something, slows us down, reminds us to pay attention, inviting us to stay longer; and in that space, everything shifts.
Creativity
Creativity is a way of being. It shows up in how we listen, how we speak, how we respond to the world around us, and how we imagine new paths forward. It lives at the heart of everything we do.
We’re true believers that language is a space to play, and language learning is a creative act, a personal process of expression.
So we design playful spaces where inspiration, innovation, and imagination flourish; where ideas are born and divergent thinking thrives; where people and creativity collide and spark something new and beautiful.
And in those spaces, something unfolds: the freedom to reconnect with the part of you that knows how to play, how to experiment. The freedom to express yourself in a new language or in any other kind of artistic language with words or without words.
Community
Sobremesa is a place of belonging. We gather around the table because something happens when we do: we satisfy the human desire for togetherness. Community is key because transformation only happens together.
Guests are invited to bring their own passions and interests with them, and to co-create activations, share wisdom, exchange knowledge, and engage in both intellectual and emotional self-cultivation.
Language lives in relationships, in everyday exchanges. And language learning is relational. We learn together, we pause together, we hold the conversation open. Connection is the thread that holds it all.
That’s why we gather — around tables, in circle — to be met, seen, heard, and encouraged.
Celebration
At Sobremesa, celebration is woven into everything we do. To celebrate is to declare that something, big or small, truly matters. This is the value that brings together our essence. Around the table, we celebrate beauty, creativity, community, language, and we celebrate life.
Our name is a declaration of love for our Mediterranean heritage. And in our culture, celebration is a language of its own. It’s how we honor life, again and again, with joy and intention. We celebrate to stay connected: to the people, the moments, and the meaning behind them. We delight in celebration. We love glitter, sparks, the magic of a moment that asks us to stay just a little longer. To share. To feel. To raise a glass and let the ordinary become extraordinary.
The real achievement is this: we are still here, we are together, and we are choosing joy. The process is the party.
